THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you…the best of both worlds. I had this idea to incorporate crochet elements into my garments, but nothing really flowed until I created this little number. I wanted to play with the black, white, red and lavender color scheme for awhile, so the moment I came across this striped fabric, I knew exactly what I wanted to do.

When it came to crafting this piece, I started with crocheting the bra cups. In the midst of crocheting the first cup, I thought it’d be a good idea to make the second cup a mirrored version of the first. The vertical stripes in the design of the cups were needed to break up the horizontal stripes of the fabric, and the horizontal stripes at the top of the cups brought everything together. I added a feminine ruffle detail for a hint of sophistication and character, a tie to keep the girls secured and in tact, and a light and airy fringe for a little fun without weighing down the dress.

This is the definition of a versatile maxi dress that can be worn any time of the year with the right layering elements. It’s perfect for the summer time heat (that I personally love), and with a sheer long sleeve top underneath, you can have the perfect look to transition into fall. Once the temperature really drops, swap the sheer top for a ribbed turtle neck, add a pair of leather boots, the outerwear of your choice (I’d prefer a leather biker jacket or a fitted blazer), and viola!…the best of both worlds baby!
